Sandpaper for fingernails? Has anyone ever tried sandpaper to trim thier fingernails?

If so how and where do u put the sandopaper?

Their soft feet would get abraded from the harshness of sandpaper in their cage. I would advise a rough rock/ brick under their water bottle instead.

Or trimming with finger nail clippers. Just be careful to hold the toe so that only the teeny bit of nail you want trimmed is exposed.

There is a Wodent Wheel accessory sold on a sugar glider site that you put in the wheel to shorten their nails. I've used that with great success--I just can't leave the wheel in all the time--just for a couple nights, then about three days off, then for a couple nights again. You might look into getting that if your rats are big wheel fans.

If you're just talking leaving sand paper in their cage, though, yeah, I don't think that's a good idea, like lilspaz said.

Thanks for that idea. I'm afraid to try nail clippers, their toes are so tiny! Now where to find a brick...
