So my black rat makes what i can only call "very quiet basketball squeks" usually when shes investigating or walking on me. I assume this is a nervous thing but i don't know. She also clicks sometimes while doing this.

Umm... does she do it any other time? Does it seem to be while she is sniffing frantically? I wonder if the squeaks and clickings could be her sinuses...

How old is she, and how long have you had her? Has she always done this?

had her MAYBE 2 months i can't remember exactly. and yes she has always made this sound when exploring. I think i'll just assume it's a nervous thing.

it could be myco to though, does she sneeze often? and do you notice large poryphrin build ups around the eyes and nose?

my violet will make scooch-y sounds when she's excited about something that she smells. but not being there to hear exactly what your's is doing it might be different. a myco flare can last a long time and the longer it lasts the less likely your rat is to recover so its always a good idea that when in doubt get it checked out. if she is showing any other signs of illness other then an odd sound once and a while i would most definately make an appointment with the vet.

My Jackson Rat does this all the time I call him my huffy rat. He doesn't do it any other time but when he is digging in my blankets or trying to dig his way out of my arms. *shrugs* he is just a huffy rat LoL

I think it's a happy noise.

My Nezume will make a noise like...... skrrruuheerrrmm over and over really fast but she only does it when she's out with me.

no sneezing apart from i would imagine is normal and no buildup at the eyes.

Fiona did that when I first got her, when she first started expolring her suroundings and when she was excited about something. so either thats normal or both of our rats are broken. =]

Omg! I'm so glad you posted this because one of my rats does the same thing.. or at least it seems the same. I posted about it a while ago, but I don't think I was able to describe it very well.

Is the "scooch" sound soft - because that's sort of the noise that Sachi makes. Hers is somewhere between the "very soft basketball squeaks" and a soft whimper. She only does it at night though, usually when she's eating.

Keep me posted, lets keep comparing! In fact, I recorded the sound on my computer, I'm just trying to figure out how to share the file.
