We (my wife and I) picked up two little ones today from a pet store. These guys they could not sell since the litter was born by accident in transit of the father and the mixed in mother.

I have searched all over the place and still cannot tell if one of them is a little guy or not. I was pretty sure that I got the male but now I'm not 100% sure. I would prefer to leave the breeding to others.

Have you checked for nipples? Male rats won't have them...

If I had to guess i would say 4-6 weeks old, the person at the pet store did not know for sure.

We have looked for nipples and could not find any (see or feel). I would assume they would be little bumps?

The urethra is too close to the anus to appear male to me, that and testicals would decend by that time. Keep them seperated. I'm 80% sure that's female though:

are the testicals decended on her friend? Can you get closer pictures of the anus/urethra or anus/penis area?

Having looked over Poppyseed's link that 'pinched' look really does seem to indicate a female.

His friends have fallen and at the shop I am almost 100% sure we grabbed the other male. Went back in and the person there said that sometimes they suck them back in.

Sometimes they do, yes, but they shouldn't do it on a consistent basis. I'd keep them separate and keep an eye on the white one.

They do suck them in sometimes, but I've never seen my males suck them in THAT much. And there still is the fact that the penis/urethra is close to the anus making me think that's more a urethra than a penis.

Keep them separated and take another picture soon, maybe tomorrow. A closer one of that area so we can see more. But yeah, every time I look at it I become more and more certain that's a girl.

We have them seperated right now, the "female" is in a small pet carrier for now. I read that you can feel for them but I am coming up empty. I think we ended up with a female.

I guess I will be heading back tomorrow morning to get the male that I thought she was.

Yea still no testacles this morning so im assuming that this little one is a girl. I couldnt bear the thought of taking her back to the pet store so the next question is how soon can we get the little guy fixed.

Also how well would the two get along with each other after hes been fixed.

How soon you can have the boy fixed depends on your vet's preferences. Some will do them early, some will want to wait. After he's fixed it's three weeks before he's safe to put in with the girl. Seeing as they're siblings, they'll probably get along all right.

Yea thats what I figured since I didnt see any testacles this morning. I called the vet that saw our last rat and hes going to give them both a checkup tomorrow morning and if the little guy is ready hes going to go ahead and neuter him.

We still gotta come up with names.

Don't get the boy fixed get the girl fixed. It's about the same cost, and if you don't get girls fixed there's an 80% chance she'll get mammory cancer. If you do get her fixed it drops to 10%
