So, I was 99.9% sure that the rittens were all boys. I haven't seen a nipple on any of them. There's a couple that are apparent, but there are a couple that I'm still not 100% on (they'll be 4 weeks this Thursday).

So, as asked last time, here's some pics (Of course, the ones I was super unsure of I couldn't get decent pics of...but this should give me a better idea)!

I feel like a total turd for not being able to do this myself....it's such a pain in the butt to try to keep track of who's who. Maybe I need to whip out the poodle dye and mark them different colors.

How long until they are all CLEARLY boys? I've read I that I should know after the first week, by week two, by week three....well it's almost week four, and I am still unsure of a few.

*sigh*

The last one definitely looks like a girl and the rest look similar to me.

In the fourth week their testes should fully descend, it should be painfully apparent right before they're separated, I think.

I'm 99.9% sure 2nd & 5th are girls

If I've ever had any doubt in sex it was typically very obvious by the 3rd week... man bits tend to dangle by that time.

If you hold them on their back & then very, very, VERY gently move tail back toward their back their scrotum should show clearly.

What ever you do... make sure you separate the boys from the girls before the end of their 5th week. Some say 6 weeks... I say be safe... better to separate than have all the little sisters end up pregnant. Hopefully there is no adult male in the mix with Mom or the little girls.

Nope, mom and the babies are seperate from the rest. They'll be 4 weeks tomorrow, so I still have some time to get it all sorted out.

It's just problematic right now in placing them in homes....one of the ones that was claimed is a girl and the person who claimed her wanted a boy....argh.

They're 5 weeks old today. Time to seperate. BUT.

Apparently that is what boys are supposed to look like at 5 weeks. NONE OF MY BOYS ARE THAT APPARENT. I can tell most of them apart now, but not all.

Do I just have horribly defective rats?

well all the babies I suspected to be males dropped their goodies by the third week but I've heard stories about some males taking a really long time to do so.

I don't think you have defective rats ;) BUT what I would do is take them to a vet just to have a vet or a v. tech confirm the sexes! I wasn't sure of one of my girls (till i noticed her glory) but I called the office and asked if I could bring her in to double check fee free. They gave me the ok, so it never hurts to ask :)

That's probably a good idea. I only have three days off between now and October though (for stupid dental work - working every day to PAY for the dental work) but hopefully I'll be able to figure something out.

My vet is also out of town for the next two weeks, and there aren't any other small animal specialists in the area. >.<
