So, this shelter that I visit every weekend for an hour or two that usually has mostly dogs and cats, but also bunnies, guinea pigs, and for the past 3 months or so, a gerbil. Well, Friday, when I went for my usual visit, I saw... a rat in the small animal room! His name is Butters, and I can't quite tell what his markings are. He's a really light tan with red eyes, and he's got some Siamese-like markings, but I don't think he's true Siamese, but I'm pretty sure he's not Himalayan, either, because he's too dark. He's got a darker snout, and his rear end is darker around his tail. I think his ears and his legs are the same color as the rest of his body, though. Anyway, he's really cute and really sweet, I went back, yesterday to visit him. On Friday, he bruxed after I had been holding him quite a while. And on Saturday, he bruxed AND boggled! This is the first rat I've really had the opportunity to interact with for longer than a few minutes. I wish I could take him home right now, but I haven't purchased my cage, yet, and I can't move into my apartment until this Friday. Anyway, if he's still there when I get my cage and get moved in... I'll probably adopt him! And he'll be joined by the two rescues Stephanie helped me locate, eventually, so he won't have to live a life of solitude anymore. I'm pretty sure he'll be there until I can adopt him, though. Rodents aren't that popular in this area, and when people go to that shelter, it's usually to adopt a dog or cat. Anyway, if I do end up adopting him, you'll see plenty of pictures of him up here in a couple weeks! :D Just thought I'd let you all know about him.

You may want to go ahead and adopt him. Some shelters will let them stay there adopted for a short while until the person adopting them has a place for them. That way you can be sure he doesn't get put down D: I just worry about him getting put down because he's a small animal I geuss.

But it's awesome that he found you!

I'm not worried about him getting put down. They've had the same gerbil there for at least 3 months, and this rat just arrived last week, and he's in great health with a great sweet personality, so I'm sure he isn't in danger of being put down.
I have, however, decided to for sure adopt him! I am renaming him, though. :X I think I will name him Dimitrius. (His future roommates will be named after my future roommates! :))
I am headed to eBay right now to order my FN!

Congratulations! How cool to find a great new rattie and be saving him, too. I hope you get your cage soon so he can move in quick! Can't wait to see pics!

The cage & food and everything gets here, tomorrow, but I can't take him, yet, until Monday, since I'm going out of town for the weekend.
I am excited for him, though. Expect pictures on Monday!!
