I have ended up with the most incredible large bird cage. It is about 72''h x 48''w x 42''d.

The cage calculator says it can hold thirty-six ratties (WOW!), so it should suit my three just fine.

But there is one problem ...

Seeing as it is a bird cage, it has no shelves. It came with a few perches, but other than that it is essentially a giant, empty box.

Does anyone have any ideas what would be the best thing to make shelves with? The first thing my mind went to was wood planks covered with linoleum, but it seems like the wood would be impossible to clean and would get gross really quickly.

Any suggestions?

I know they make these hook on wire shelves... maybe Walmart or some hardware store would have them?

I know! I'm so excited about it...

I keep my cage in my office next to my desk. The cage is always open onto a long craft table that is used for a play area - a "swimming pool", a digging box, a maze of PVC pipe that is attached underneath the table so that you can't see it (but they can use it) because it would be a huge eye sore, etc...

I love the idea of a ton of hammocks - so, what I might end up doing is using the wire shelving that Forensic was talking about (lined with linoleum) around the outsides of the cage going all the way around, but each one the next level up - like a spiral! Then, fill the middle of the cage with hammocks, tunnels, tubes, box hammocks, and so on!

Yay!

Also... I think "aviary" might be a better word for it than cage...
