Shipping Rats

I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this. Like say I wanted to buy a manx rat from someone who lives provinces away from me (i would adopt or get one from a responsible breeder from around here, but there aren't any) would it be possible to have them like air mailed or something? sounds weird but I'm really curious about this...

Certain airlines will ship rats, but they are in the baggage section, I think, so there is the chance that the pilot may depressurize it if the plane encounters issues.

forgive me for being ignorant, but depressurize? what do you mean?
Er... Sucking all the air out of the section of the plane, I believe.

As far as I'm aware, when shipping live animals it is done in extreme emergencies only...

Could you maybe make a train (person to person) to get the rat you'd like?

I'd be terrified to fly a rat anywhere. :(
