Well I've heard all this talk about how Rats are prone to Respiratory Infections and such. And it's got me all worried about Jinx. Because he has been sneezing a whole lot since we've gotten him. His eyes and nose are clear. And his breathing seems fine. Should I worry about alot of sneezing? Or do they just have really sensitive noses?

Rats will snuffle and wheeze a little when their environments change, so if you've just brought your ratty home, chances are he's going to be a bit sniffly for a week or two.

Shavings (esp Pine) are a no-no, as the dust it carries is problematic to rats respiritory systems.

Various things can be done to help ease the breathing, like a steam room (maybe when you're taking a shower, let the rats run in the bathroom - but make sure it's been rat-proofed first!) and feed a little bit of chocolate every now and then (esp when they sound worse than normal).

Hope that helps :)

PS: You might want to consider getting a same-sex friend for Jinx - rats are pack animals, after all :)
