My rattie's been dealing with some respiratory issues lately, she's stuffy and has these fits of choking (some worse than others) because of mucus buildup. This had caused her to stop eating. A week ago I took her to the vet, she was given a steroid shot and some medicine. At first, Hermie took the medicine just fine, even though she would have a mini-attack when we would take her out of her cage. She'd also eat up all the baby food I'd give her to help her put her weight back on. But the other day she had a particularly bad attack when I took her out to give her medicine, she was drooling and wheezing and her sides were heaving in and out - she also had quit eating again...So I've held off on the medicine, out of fear that it'll just make her choke more severely. She's not eating, not drinking, and just taking her out of her cage launches her into a fit (I suspect its an anxiety attack on top of her respiratory attacks). I have no idea what to do. :-[
