Most rats are clean animals and wont "go" where they sleep. Rats can also be litter trained, so most people who have 'free roaming' rats would probably have litter trained them for their convenience.

My biggest issue with people letting their rats sleep in their beds is that the human might roll over and squash their rat :( Its been known to happen :(

when i had my first rat Daisy she used to share my double bed with me and curl up behind my knees. unforuantly now my bf is living with me Toby and Cody have to sleep in their cage i found with Daisy she would sleep when i did where as with toby and cody the seem to never sleep!

I couldn't because I'm known to be violent in my sleep. I've smacked my boyfriend and proclaimed "shrimp!"
