Well,.... today was too stressful. When I left my boys this morning to go to school, they were snuggled up together sleeping. When I came home and looked in the cage, there was a lot of blood. I first picked up Captian and he had nothing on him, so I knew it was the baby. Something obviously went wrong during the day because Edward has a bite on his face, on his side, and also he had bit the end of his tail off. I was terrified. I took him out, cleaned him off and stopped the bleeding. My parents said he will be okay. [My father works at the zoo, and my mother on a farm, so I'm confident that they're opinion is true.] I set up a new cage for the baby that he will be living in. I feel awful. They were perfectly fine when I left the house, so I didn't think anything would happen.

I've been stressed out all day and I feel sick to my stomach. Plus it didn't help that my boyfriend's mother told me to "lighten up" and that I was "pathetic" because I was so upset. Some people....

I just wish I was like little Edward. He went through all of that, and is still more than happy to give lots of kisses... If only people where like rats.

Poor baby! How long had they been together? How old is the older one?

You may need to get him neutered, if he's gonna attack the baby. :(

They haven't been together long at all, and that's why I feel so bad. Captian is almost a year. I knew I had a bad feeling about leaving him in there while I was gone, I should have followed my instinct. When I introduced them, it was out of the cage, and before I put them in, I scrubbed the cage so it didn't smell like the big guy. They were doing so well so I didn't really worry. I should have given them more time.

Whoa... definitely sounds like neutering needs to be looked into.

Your boyfriend's mother sounds like a heartless tool :p
Alright.. I'll talk to my parents about getting him neutered

And I agree about his mother... I couldn't believe she said that.. if it was a dog I wouldn't be pathetic now would I?

Neutering is fantastic. It really calms boys down. Six of my seven boys are neutered (the one left out being nearly 3 years old), and they all live happily with my four spayed girls :)

Maybe giving them more time to get to know each other will work. Depending on how long your older boy has been on his own, can yo imagine how annoying a little bouncy one would get? lol Best of luck getting them sorted out and calmed down. :)

well, i'm taking Edward to the vets tomorrow. he was healing nicely (the bite on his side is almost gone along with the one on his face), but he was chewing on his tail today. as soon as i got the bleeding to stop, he chewed it again. i had been cleaning his tail everyday, but obviously not good enough because the bite on the top of his tail was infected. so once again, i cleaned it. i just don't want him to keep chewing it open and bleed to death or something... so i'll see what the vet has to say.

should i look into amputation?
