Looking for suggestions on affordable stores/sites to find rat supplies. I know most (all) of them are seen as unethical but most of the stuff I've gotten so far has been from Chewy, Petsmart, Petco, and Amazon + DIY materials from the Dollar Tree/General.

Look around the house to see what can be repurposed as rat accessories. FreeCycle, NextDoor, FB Marketplace, etc are also places to look for cheap or free stuff. Maybe even thrift stores and yard / moving sales and relatives and friends. I found a great thick cardboard tube at the supermarket once :D It originally was a roll of plastic produce bags. The tube was empty so I took it 😁

Etsy is a great place for rat accessories but it's probably not the most affordable option since many items are handmade. Still, it's nice to make a splurge once in awhile. Some popular sellers:

Chewy.com, thrift stores, ikea, contact local libraries and ask if you can pickup extra old newspaper's monthly, Craigslist, + save tissue paper, toilet rolls, old clothing, blankets, kidy pools, cat towers, boxes,

costco, lidl, etc. Have carts full of boxes

🤷‍♂️

I looked at BJ's carts of freebies boxes the other day. They were all too big for my Critter Nation and I don't allow the rat to free roam. But for people who do allow free roaming, the sturdy bulk boxes are great (y) Make a dig box full of bedding, make a fort / castle for exploring, etc. I don't know about other stores but BJs allows anyone to walk in and take the free boxes.

Make a Want ad on FreeCycle, etc for old newspapers, cardboard tubes, shipping boxes, etc. You may need to occasionally take down the old ad and re post a new one so it doesn't get buried under other ads. Puruse the Offer ads, too. Sometimes you find something that can repurposed as a rat accessory like a plastic bin.

Etsy, chuck and dons, and sometimes goodwill!
