This is the cage I want to get, but it's £160 (About $300) and I don't have that kind of spare cash right now.

I currently have this cage which is supposed to be comfortably large enough for 4 rats (I have 3) but I think they look a little cramped and bored in there. I just thought I'd ask here as these forums are the collective knowledge and experience of a great deal of rat lovers, any ideas of alternative cages of this kind of size but a few less pennies?

I generally want what is advertised as enough room for 3 rats to each of my one (So a cage big enough for about 9 rats to house my 3) So it would have to be about the size of the Furet tower or bigger. The alternative is my partner and I turning the corner of our room into a bult-in cage, which we would prefer to avoid. Well I say we; he would

Have a look at e-bay and see if they have something there. I didn't look until I had ordered a new cage, but there are some great deals on large cages.

I'm getting that cage that you have now for my two rats. I'm not planning on putting more than the two in there. It should arrive tomorrow or Wednesday. I can't wait.

Ebay (UK) is a bit vague when it comes to pet cages. I managed to find my cage by chance (£125 but it's massive)

What sort of price range are you thinking?

I find the best way to search is to find out what cage you want and then work on the best place to find it. You can get a lot of ideas for UK based cages etc from http://www.fancy-rats.co.uk (the Habitat section) e.g the Samo 82

Ummm you can try the Samo 82 or there's one called the K3 (check that fancy rats forum, there was a thread a wee while ago)

OR! Some people by a Savic Freddy 2 and use it as a topper for their Jenny. Maybe that's an idea until you can fund a complete renovation?

The only problem would be, to properly acces/clean the Jenny, you would have to remove the Freddy. BUT! If you're handy in the DIY department, maybe you can make a larger door for the Jenny for a front opening? You could use the door you remove on top

And..FNs are like omg greatness - they are making a Rat Nation shortly, I believe. Or so rumor has it - XD

I've seen the Ferplast cages, and I think they look really fun but I'm not sure I'd trade in my FN. I just think the built in tubes are awesome!

about the rat nation.....I went to goosemoose to read about it, and I know a member said it's coming out in a few months but there are no pictures . Is it going to be exactly like the FN but with smaller spacing, or are they going to add exciting features like tubes and possibly deep trays for litter? I guess I'm lacking in the patience department but I want to plan it out now to see if I want to buy an RN and sell my relatively new FN.

I don't suppose anyone on here would want to buy a used FN is good condition with bonus mesh

I might just buy it off you when RN comes out, I just got donated (another) Jenny so I'm not on the lookout right now, but when my girls (which I thought were boys - long story) are big enough I may get them something bigger to run about in.

So I got my Jenny yesterday, and I have already done some improvements to it that helps a lot with the access problem.

I removed the door from the top, made a hole for it on the long side and put it there. Then I added the top of my old cage to the top of the Jenny, and vola, bigger cage and better access. Here are two pictures. I just finished

Are you going to do anything with the bars?

The Jenny annoys me because the bars go manky really quickly when peed on. I'm thinking about painting it

As of right now, no. I didn't have a problem with either of them peeing on the bars before, I hope it stays that way. If not I have to do something, but as of right now, it stays like that.
