So, after dealing with the death of tyrell i noticed something on Jolt.
A few weeks ago he had a scab on his back, i examined it and it looked pretty normal so i figured he and bear were just being boys and disregarded it. A week or so after the scab was still there but i tried to look at it again and he was squirming like no tomorrow so i just assumed the cut was deeper than i thought it was and it would heal.
today i woke up and opened the cage door to say goodmorning. Jolt came up to me with his usual jolty smile and wanted to come play. he climbed out a little and i saw the cut still there but it wasnt scabbed over. i looked at it and moved some fur around it and it was all red and assumingly open. So between him trying to get out, me trying to keep him still, and his fur being almost impossible to part because of this, i noticed a laaaarge area of skin with this issue. Its safe to say its about two to three inches.

I just checked bear and he has a little of it too, not nearly as bad as jolt but its about a cm large.

Does anyone know whats going on? my poor kids :'(

look at pet stores or feed/tack stores for ivermectin, bimectin, equimectrin, etc.... should run you $5-10. mix the entire tube with a stick, give each rat the size of a grain of uncooked rice and clean and disinfect their entire cage. repeat the dose every week for a total of 3 weeks, disinfecting the cage each time. mites are a lot more resistant to ivermectin than lice, but it's worth a shot. good luck.
