Hello there!
I'm new to rats, and this forum, but have a question!
I got my rats about a month ago and so far everything has been going great, we bonded almost instantly, and have a lot of fun together.
I just have a question about food. I am a vegan and eat the occasional meat substitute, as well as textured vegetable protein. I was wondering if any of this is appropriate for rattys? I'm very hesitant about giving animals any food that I'm not sure of yet, and haven't been able to find any literature on the subject.
I tracked down some brands to maybe give you an idea of the ingrediants...

I also occasionally have some tofu around the house, and was wondering if little bits of that would be ok too?
And since we're on the subject of foods...what seeds and nuts can rats eat?
Thanks so much for taking the time to even read this! :D
All the best,
Marie

Here's a good 'Forbidden Foods list'
http://www.petratscanada.com/forbidden_foods.htm

Note that unpackaged tofu is on the list, but packaged tofu is fine.

In general, as long as things are ripe and or cooked they're usually safe, and rats can eat almost anything people can. I've also hear to be careful with citrus for male rats (the vitamin C).

hey, i'm a vegan, and i must confess that my rats have often eaten little bits of whatever i'm eating at the moment. i've never had a problem with rats eating veggie burger, veggie "hot dogs," veggie "chicken." in fact, they seem to like them. i can't be much more useful than a personal testimonial (hey, they're good enough for infomercials) that i've fed meat substitutes in small amounts with no i'll effects.
