I had three rats, two dislike each other and fight, and one gets along with both brothers. Sadly, my boy who got along with both brothers passed away and the two who hate each other are now stuck with each other. Sometimes they are fine, but sometimes one will get in the other’s face and start a fight. Manny bites Bleu unprovoked sometimes when Bleu is being nice or minding his own business. And sometimes Bleu is the aggressor and chases Manny and possibly scares him. They are separated now, they don’t fight between the bars but sometimes they stare at each other menacingly. I am not in the position to get other rats right now to help them blend into a bigger mischief. When they are supervised, they can be out together but I am stressed out about one of them getting hurt and drawing blood in the cage together. They are older boys at 1 year 8 months, so I believe neutering at this point wouldn’t be too great for them. I thought they had come a long way and settled down, but since the sweet brother passed away, they have been mean to each other. What can I do to help them?

Hi and welcome. If you don't want any more rats, then these boys will have to live together somehow. They are definitely too old to neuter. What kind of cage do you have?

They have a pawhut 4’ ferret cage that is divided into two parts. They can roam the room free (it has a cat tree, tunnels, boxes, box castle, blankets, etc) so when I’m not supervising, one is in the cage and one can free roam the open part of the bottom cage and the whole room. Manny bit Bleu’s nose yesterday (very minor wound, already almost healed), but they had a big fight a while back and im scared to leave them alone together free.
