Just got some new ratties today - rescued baby bucks. They are about six weeks old, but haven't had much human contact until today. One of them is super friendly, and the other one is a bit skittish, but I will work on socialising him. They are beautiful, but have no names yet! The friendlier one is a dumbo blue self, and the other is a dumbo PEW with husky markings.

With everyone peering in the cage, I thought I'd give my little dog Murphy a look, so I picked him up. He spent his first few weeks on a farm so he is used to other animals. He got so upset when I put him back on the ground! But it wouldn't be fair to the rats to have too much in their first day.

The only thing is, I hadn't anticipated getting this pair of rescue rats, but I couldn't just leave them. I am due to be picking up some babies from a breeder in the next 3-4 weeks, so am going to introduce the two pairs carefully. I have introduced two rats before, and there was about a month age gap there. I know what to do mainly, I guess I am just looking for some advice on intros in pairs; what are the pitfalls to watch out for?

Okay, so here is a picture- ps. this was taken while they were in a holding cage- not their permanent home! xx

Aww, what cute little boys! I love dumbos :D

The second boy isn't a PEW though - PEWs are completely white. I'm not sure exactly what color that is, or what those markings would be, but I love them! They're both beautiful rats ^_^

The one with pink eyes looks like a tan blaze. Both are totally adorable. :)

Make sure you do a quarantine before introductions, in case you already didn't know that. I don't really have any good advice for intros, I haven't done many of them yet. I usually just watch out for the puffing up of the fur, the rats turning sideways in an anger stance or blood during fights.

Well, I'm not so good at the colour varieties! I have had a good morning stroke today, but they have been asleep alot, so I'll leave the next step until they are more active! I have plenty of time before intros, so I have time to get it straight in my head. Thanks for the replies! xx

I picked them up last night and it went really well! A few fear turds, but nothing too severe. The little white one was hard to catch, but was fine once I had done it. Actually, the hardest thing was trying to get them both back in the cage!

Those look almost EXACTLY like my first two rats. Mine were female, not male like yours, but same colors, one silver, one gold, and both dumbos.

The gold one I had had one pink eye and one black one... thought that was pretty cool.

It's wierd to see those pictures they looks so much like the ones I had. The ones we had, the silver one was a bitch and the gold one was sweet, but would get pissed on almost every night by the other one so always had to have a bath :/
