We are mourning our little girl

Hi, my name is Patty. We had two rats, Peaches, our hairless one, and Patches, our black and white. We just put Patches to sleep Sunday morning. She had cancer. We only had her for six months. She was still a baby. We are (my daughter and I) heartbroken. She had two surgeries to remove tumors. Each time they grew right back. The second time with a vengeance. She was such a character. She was so happy and full of life. She would always run to the cage door to come out when I would come home from work, or bring in their breakfast to greet me. She would follow me around the room while I was cleaning, or getting ready. Now I cannot bear going into the room and not see that happy little face. I have lost animals before, and it was always tragic for me, but this is really hard to get over. My daughter and I are waiting for her ashes to come back. Little comfort, as we both miss her so much. We feel terrible for our surviving rattie, Peaches, as they were so close. We just picked up two baby feeder rats, who are adorable. We thought it would help comfort us, and it has a bit. They are waiting for a Dr. appt on thursday before we can start introducing them to our Peaches.
Just wanted to introduce myself, and tell anyone who'll read this a little background on me and my rats. Hello everone. Sorry if I am such a downer right now, but this really sucks this grieving stuff.

Hello, and welcome to the ratforum. I am so sorry to hear about your Peaches. I myself had to let a rat go (He has a sudden onset pituitary tumor) in December and I still miss my sweet boy. Fortunately, this place is a fantastic tool for all things rat and there are plenty of people who understand the grief of losing a precious ratty. Do not be afraid to feel sad at this time - we all get it! Sometimes it help to write a little memorial for them on the forums to get all your feelings out and as a way to look back on all the great things about them. Our family buried Kiwi in a special spot in our garden and as corny as it sounds, we still sometimes go over there and talk about our day. In any case, my condolences.
Thank you for the kind words. It helps, knowing that there are people who understand how we can be so upset over losing a rattie. She was a member of the family to us.

These are our rats. The first picture is our Peaches and that was our Patches, the black and white thaat just passed. The second picture is a picture of our two new babies. We just took them to the vet and found out that they may both be boys! He actually said that he's pretty sure they are both boys. We asked for two girls when we were in the pet store. Oh well, does not matter, are getting fixed as soon as they are old enough. The third picture is Peaches eating a rice cake. We are getting another hairless tonite, so Peaches will have a buddy alsthey o.
