What's the average weight of a healthy rat? I'm starting to think my are getting over weight. One of my boys weighs 1 pound 3 1/2 ounces and the other weighs 1 pound 5 1/2 ounces. Is this normal?

Ratguide states that the average weight for males is up to 550 g, which is about 1.2 lbs. Now, this may not be a healthy weight for all rats. If the rats cannot walk without dragging its stomach, if it has fat rolls, etc... it's too fat.

You should weigh your rats often. A sudden drop or gain in weight is normally a sign of something is wrong and you might be able to catch it early.
