I just purchased a wheel for my boys, and they haven't gone near it. I've tried to put them near it and show it to them, but they just run away scared. I'm not sure what to do. I read somewhere that to get a rat to use a wheel they have to had started using them at a young age, is that true? Any advice on how to get them to use their new toy? Any advice would be appreciated. :)

In the past I have gotten a wheel for adult rats who had never seen a wheel before and they used it.

Sometimes understanding what a wheel is takes time. Even months! I'd leave it in the cage and put treats inside the wheel. It is likely that given time they will begin to check it out and finally use it.
Though boys do tend to be lazier and may not be as interested as girls.

When I bought my rats a wheel they wouldn't go near it until I took a treat and lured one of them onto it and put it right abover her nose, so that she was running on the wheel. This worked for me and I hope it works for you too! Goodluck!
