Is it natural for the whiskers to fall out and regrow, like the rest of the fur?

I found one of Gus' whiskers right next to him just now, and he and Boo were wrestling before.

It's either natural for them to fall out, or Boo is in trouble - again! ;)

I guess it must be, I've never had experience of this myself but I'm assuming they must shed with the rest of the fur. After all, it is just thick hair, isn't it?

o_O

Although, saying that, I remember my first rat once got his whiskers stuck in some sticky tape while i was wrapping a present (he was being nosy) and lost some of his whiskers - but they grew back. Surely, if they weren't to be lost, they wouldn't grow back?

Hmm...
