Whole House Free-Roam?

I see people letting their rats roam in their whole house on Tik-Tok and Instagram and I was wondering what opinions you guys have on it. Before I had pet rats, I bought my house with my friends, and there were rats in the attic. The home inspector didn't tell us so we were caught entirely off guard. We fixed the problem (don't worry we used humane traps and relocated them to rat burrows that we knew were in the woods) and there is no way my pet rats could get out of the house and all pheromones from the wild rats were erased. I would love to let my rats use all of the space (I have a one-story ranch). Do yall think it would be ok for me to do this or should I stick to my bedroom. (p.s. there are no other pets in the house except my two birds and they are blocked off).

Also, I have this bag that my Vans came in and I was wondering if it would be safe to put it in my rat's cage as a large snuggle sack with fleece strips in it.

It can be pretty dangerous to allow whole house free-roam because of things such as ovens, tiny cracks that your rats might sleep in, wires, items falling on the floor, etc.

Sure!

I've read of people's homes flooding because their rat chewed through a washing machine hose. Rats can be really destructive and sometimes they're sneaky about it.

I used to let my rats free roam in an old apartment. I thought they were being good but when I moved out, I found all of their hidden potty spots and where they had been chewing on the built-in woodwork. I wasn't pleased.

Allowing your rats full free-roam might work well for you and your particular rats but you'll want to be very, very careful to prevent them from getting into stuff that they shouldn't and potentially be prepared for some damage to your property/possessions.

Don't even think about letting your rats float free. In case you like unpleasant surprises, you can let your pets out. And surprises can be not only in the form of chewed wires. Rats are very agile creatures. They can climb where you can't even guess. The fact that a rat can just run away isn't the worst thing. They can carry disease with them. It's possible to set up a separate room for the rat with escape protection. But your layout must allow you to do so. You can explore this site https://www.boutiquehomeplans.com/cost-to-build. Maybe it will inspire you to redesign your home.
