Will

I regret to inform you all , my lovely german shepard Ozzy who you all saw was a gentle giant playing with out rat Keith.

Well he bit a catolog sales woman at the door... he thought she was hurting my mum..he was put to sleep

At the time i was working in Austria he had nipped people in the past but the vet thinks it was a nuro problem as he showed no malace or aggression before or after training did not help nor did muzzling ..
He was 18 months , we tried every option until the last one was euthinising ...
I did not find out till i got home because they did not want me upset in a foreign country with no comfort..
We even tried police training but they would not accpet him , so please do give me no flames the police would of taken Ozzy to put him down if we didnt..

any dog that harms someone should be put down the FIRST time. I'm lucky my dog hasn't been, she bit the meter reader once.

Aggressive dogs are a danger, but if a dog hurts a human it may not necessarily be aggression, so not all dogs that hurt people should be put down.

I'm sorry for the loss of Ozzy.

Even in fear a dog should give a warning before attacking a human being.

oh, i'm really sorry... that's awful. sometimes hard decisions have to be made.

a few years ago my beagle bit my neighbor. we got lucky, though. the neighbor knew it was his own fault for reaching under the car where my dog was hiding. we had to put him down this spring, many years after the incident, because he had lymphoma.

again, i'm sorry.

awww....he was only 18 months. That must have been so sad for you! You never got to do very much with him. I am so sorry. I went through a loss of a dog about three weeks ago. I am so sorry. My dog was put down also.

Im soo sorry! Thats a tough situation. We were lucky with my sisters dog. She is the biggest sweetheart but one of my brothers idiot friends who was already nervous around her (which dogs can sense) and then he decided to get in her face for a lick even though she doesn't even know him. And she nipped his brow. his mom reported it and they sent someone over to evaluate her but saw how good she was and once they heard the story they pretty much said the kid should have known better and the dog seems fine. Whew!

I'm sorry your dog had to be put down. The gas lady actually called the dog warden on my dog once because my dog bit her. We faught it in court and won though, but typically this doesn't happen. In the eyes of the law if a dog bites once, it's going to bite again and need to be euthenized. Our gas lady who was bitten was bitten because we had our gas shut down for repairs. She knew the dog was in the house, she walked downstairs to check the furnace and such and then walked outside. She said she would be back, ok fine. I didn't lock the door and was changing my son's diaper when she knocked. I said hold on, she opened the door and yelled in "I'm in a hurry so I'm coming down to finish the job" I yelled back to her "don't do that because my dog isn't locked up and he doesn't know you" and the idiot still walked inside. Yes my dog bit her, but name me a small breed dog that won't bite someone they don't know who's wearing a tool belt (and most people know dogs just don't like people wearing tool belts) that wanders into their house while their owner is yelling and they are protecting a baby in the house.....

I hate the laws!!

We had a recent series of 'dog attacks' here, which left many people paranoid and added to our banned breeds list. They were even going to ban Neopolitan Mastifs (my dog Sophie) which really scared me, because she's the most gentle thing ever! I think the knee-jerk reaction when a dog bites someone is that the dog is dangerous/incurable/to blame. Yes, there are some dogs who are just randomly agressive because it's in their nature. But a lot of times dogs won't attack unless provoked or suffering from serious stress. I think the owner has the responsibility of researching breeds before buying them, training their dogs, and making sure they receive the care they need. Many of the dog attack stories never mentioned the owner (only the 'terrible' dog), but I later found out that many of the dogs were not fenced in and weren't given any formal training even after showing signs of agression as puppies. Many of them hadn't even been fed for a few days. And it's the dog who ends up suffering for the owner's stupidity. Probably because the dog can't defend itself, it's the easiest scape goat.

I think in this case it sounds like you tried your best, and it really is a shame this had to happen.

Thanks for ur kind words , we tried everything to keep Ozzy from going , but we were left with no option

Whats more annoying in the next morning after the inncedent and after the dog was put down the catolog lady who was bit by him happily walked up the drive and knocked the door ..now if i was her and got bit by a dog at that house u would not catch me near the drive let alone outside the door .. My mum said the dog was dead , put down. And the woman went well he ripped my top it cost 45 pounds , my mum went fine buy the top again show me the reciept and i will re in burse you , now the woman has not showed back , how dare she think she can make money by lying about the price of her top when we have lost our dog ..
Some time i listen to a song or see a ball of fluff from him that has stuck in the corner of the hover can not reach it and i cry , i miss him loads..
Thanks again
