my baby marceline has a pea-sized lump under her arm. she is just over one year old. she's a double rex so she has a lot of loose skin and it's hard to get a good look at it because she hates being held. it is soft and i think it moves with the skin but due to its placement i worry it might be a benign tumor. obviously that's better than a malignant tumor but i just moved and i'm really worried about the cost of getting it removed since it will take a lot of time to get my feet on the ground financially.

if anyone has input or advice, or can recommend a competent and affordable vet in los angeles, please let me know. i feel sick to my stomach.

That's unfortunate :/ I hated being at that stage of life. The vet might be able to work something out for you or there may be some sort of credit card that you can get. Carecredit is fairly picky about who they will accept, but others aren't. You might be able to find one that has no interest if you pay it within a certain time or make payments each month, but I've never had an actual credit card like that. Building credit is a little daunting at first because the interest rates aren't the best, but you have to start somewhere. If none of those are an option, just set aside a little bit of money as you can. Like I said, the growth isn't large enough to impact her life yet and as long as she's still acting normal it's not all that urgent to have it removed. Sometimes removal is more dangerous than the actual tumor.

How old is she ? What's her life like right now....?

I know this is hard to hear, but it may be a benign tumor, as it's common in that location... In which case, they grow quickly. Do you have some things you can sell....? Is downgrading your phone, selling textbooks, cutting out a few things an option..? I am also a university student on a tight budget, and I totally understand....

If she is young/ acts young and has no other health problems and is in good health, you may want to sell things and scrape together what money you can, and make an appointment with a vet. Even if you can only come up with 3/4 or even 1/2 of the funds, after the surgery is done you can work it out :) pay what you can, and then make a payment plan. Find a vet that will do one in advance... Sometimes they don't do them in advance, but when it comes to the register and you don't have enough, they are forced to work something out....

I'm so sorry. Take a hard look at what you own/ where you spend your money, and see what you can do. Please update us. I just lost my girl to mammary tumor, and just had a lump on my other girl removed, so I totally understand! Feel free to msg me.

If it feels soft and squishy it's most likely a mammary tumour, it looks as though it's just under the skin and it looks like the one my rat just had removed when I first found it, it grew very quickly and eventually affected her walking, it was even in the same place as yours! Keep an eye on it but if it gets too big I highly suggest you get it removed if she's young and healthy otherwise as it will affect her quality of life.
