I'm sure it is. I onlt have one rat but...

you see, I let my rat out to play on my bed, and he somehow now that the teddy bear on my bed is the one I sleep with EVERY night. So, whenever he is free ranging on my bed...he....stuffs my teddybears head under my pillow and sits on my teddybear.

so.. I am SURE it is possible for rats to get jealous over that. I mean..wouldn't you get jealous if your Mom spent more time with your sister?

 

I think it is possible, yes. Depending really on the personality of your rat, maybe?
I know if I'm petting Kinsey, his brother Garnet will usually come over and butt my hand and budge Kinsey over as if to say "heeyy, what's about meee?". Garnet likes to be the center of attention though, I've noticed. He loves it when my parents and my roommate pay attention to him, he starts popcornning when they come over to the cage and look at him.

 

I'm certain rats get jealous. If I pick up one rat then the others all scamper over to see what's happening.

Have you ever tried reading a book during free range time? I don't think ratties like not being the centre of attention.... If i stop paying attention to them then they come and bug me. Big time!!

 

Try to play a musical instrument. My rats immediately are all over me and grab the end of the recorder. Or try talking on the phone, they sit on my shoulder and ease drop.
I don't want to try the guitar, I am sure they chew the strings or build a nest inside it.
I don't think it's jealousy, they just want to have fun too like the others.

 

Ohhhh yes. I used to have one rat, Tarzan, who was so jealous of the other, Nibbler... Whenever someone would pick up Nibbler, Tarzan would grab the cage bars and stick his nose out and just GLARE. Eventually he started beating up on Nibbler and they had to be separated. But even after Nibbler eventually passed on Tarzan just had to be the center of attention.

 

Yep, if I am petting one, the other will push her out of the way. And if one gets picked up, the others have to too!
