So, this baby rat was sold as a feeder, and now she's found her way to me and I've never owned a rat before. Please help, I didn't want her to be killed so I took her and now I have a pet rat. Is it normal for rats to sneeze and sometimes clear snot to be there? What are the signs of a resp. infection in a baby rat? Is it normal she doesn't know how to nest/make a nest and just balls up to sleep? She was super skinny when I got her last Saturday, but she's gained weight and loves to eat now and always has a fat full belly now with lots of fresh bottled water.
She's been by herself cause I didn't know if I could get her cage mates yet, I plan to get 2 more females, but not until she's able to get into the vet. She's decompressed really well and has been happy to start roaming around and what not the last few days. She gotten so curious and silly and is really starting to enjoy interaction with me. She's got good energy, but I'm scared about her sneezing fits. I also read that feeder rats aren't cared for well, and health isn't a concern because they are just food and it's a waste of money.
How do I know if she's okay? I have to wait until a small animal vet comes into our clinic and that's not until Wednesday. Is there anything I should be doing? Home medicine or care to help? Anything for an immune system boost?
Please help, I'm sorry if my rambling is stupid, but I've always loved rats and now I'm panicking I don't want her to get sick and die
