Rat with bloody eye

Hey there, my two rats were scrapping under the couch, and I heard a louder squeak than usual, and Meemer came running out with bloody all round his eye. I gave it a dab with some cotton wool with warm water to try and see where the blood was coming from but I can't really see anything. His eye looks pretty normal now. What the heck happened? Should I take him to the vet?

Could be porphyin. My elderly girl's eyes sometimes have excessive amounts around them. Although if they were fighting he could have gotten scratched

It was a sudden influx of red all round the eye, it wasn't there before the fight, and I noticed it maybe 5 mins after I shouted at them to stop, when he came out from under the couch. Can porphyin spontaneously appear like that in one eye so quickly?

Yes. I've noticed that Lilly's eyes can suddenly have excess porphyrin out of the blue only for it to vanish a minute later, she probable wipes it away while I'm not paying attention. I've chalked it up to her being old and sick.

It probably was a little bit of blood from fighting, but no I wouldn't rush off to the vet as there is no visible would. Rats can heal quite quickly so he should be alright :)
They were probably just play fighting and one of their nails accidentally scratched him I wouldn't worry too much, mines fight like cat and dog and sometimes we have a little cut or scratch, nothing serious though
