We came home from a few days out of the state, and Science has rapidly declined since we've left. I am holding him close tonight, trying to make this whole process easier for him. He is covered in what was once wet diarrhea, his limbs are cold and discolored, and he is refusing food and water. His nose is covered in porphyrin, and his breathing is so shallow and labored. Aside from bringing him to the vet to be put down, how else can I ease his passing? I'm racking my brain, thinking of ways to keep him safe and comfortable, but aside from holding him and trying to feed him high-value foods, I am completely useless I feel.
His brother, Ozone, died on 2/11/25, and yes, Science has been alone since that date. I wanted to get more ratties, but with Science beginning to decline, I didn't want to put him through more stress...maybe that was the wrong choice for Science, I'll never know.
