toy wood

i got a piece of untreated wood at home depot for like 58 cents. its big, so i stepped on it to break it up. with those sharp edges, is it okay to put in the cage? also, is there anything else i should know about the wood before i put it in there?

and as for the sharp edges.. no. don't risk it. sand it first.

I would suggest baking it or something to kill any germs or bacteria also.

If it is pine or cedar than do not use. I agree with Sam Anthrax but I would also soak it in a very mild bleach and water solution and then rinse, rinse, rinse and rinse some more and then let it air dry.
