Ringworms!!! He needs to go to a vet! And afterwards, wash your hair, bc I got ringworms from my rats! And don't worry, It's a very small case, he will be fine with some treatment!

YES! Those are Ringworms! He needs a vet ASAP.

It's very possibly ringworm or some other sort of fungal or bacterial infection. [Ringworm] is not actually any sort of worm, it's a skin infection caused by a specific fungus. It is contagious. It can be transmitted from one rat to your other rats and to you.

I think that if there's a possibility that it's a fungal infection, you'll want to treat it sooner rather than later or else it may spread to your other rats and to you.

 

I wonder...would an OTC anti-fungal for people work for rats?

 

I would suggest caution with that. With the way rats bathe, they are likely to get the anti fungal into their mouths and that could cause other problems for the rat.

 

just to add, if you have any other pets you should check if they can also get ringworm. fungal infections can be incredibly contagious.

I have guinea pigs, horses and rats, all of which are susceptible to ringworm which scares the living bejesus out of me.
