My Partner is looking to put mulch in the garden and we thought maybe we could double pupose it as Feed/ Bedding for our pet rat (and guinea pigs). Looking at Sugar cane straw, Pea straw and Lucerene Straw Mulches. But can't find any info on whether or not they're safe for rats. If none are, then we're gonna try Chaff, but if we can double purpose straw mulch, that would be awesome.

From my understanding, straw isn't very absorbent and may not be the best substrate for a rat cage. I know that some people add a little bit of straw to their cages as enrichment and as a nesting material but I have no experience or knowledge in using straw as a primary bedding material.
I can't help but notice you writing about "a rat" and not "rats". Do you just have one rat? If so I highly encourage you to get a second rat, because rats are group animals and will most likely get depressed without other rats around them.
